Origin of Martin, Meaning of Martin

Origin: Comes from "Mars" God of War. Martins were Roman soldiers who made weapons, armor. Later, those soldiers were given plots of land at the edge of the empire. Martin is the same as Smith - hence the bird named Martin who looks like it flew through a blacksmith's shop. Martin, Martinez, Martino are all derivations of one who works for Mars.
