The Earl Allan Bake Family Home Page
BAKE - our immigrant ancestors were English Quakers (from Yorkshire) who settled in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio after coming to these shores in 1831. POE - pioneers and Indian fighters on the western Pennsylvania frontier before and during the Revolutionary War. My greatgrandfather, Andrew Poe (1742-1823), and his younger brother, Adam, settled in the area that is now Beaver County, PA. They were in Revolutionary War militia and were active in protecting the western frontier against Indian war parties that were armed by the English. Their most famous action was a fight with a Wyandot raiding party in September 1781 in which two sons of their chief, Half King, were killed. This battle was on the eastern bank of the Ohio River near the mouth of Tomlinson Run (now in WV just opposite and downstream of the present location of Wellsville, OH). LOCKHART --- Scotch-Irish settlers in the same area as that where the Poes lived in the late eighteenth century. William Lockhart (1756-1834) who we think came to western Pennsylvania via Virginia after the Revolutionary War. ROMESBURG -- Pennsylvania Dutch to the core. Gilbert Bake family immigrated to Westmoreland County, PA in 1831.
