Origin: Today most of the Klemmes in germany live in the area of 'Ostwestfalen', which is near Bielefeld. Maybe 'Klemme' is a placename, meaning a narrow place. Think of the bavarian 'Klamm'. Maybe it comes from Clemens or think of 'in der Klemme sitzen', which means that someone isn?t in a good situation - he has to make a decision, but there is none in sight.

Origin of Lem, Meaning of Lem

Origin: The Alemannic tribe, whose women dressed and fought like men, along with the Goths, overran the part of the German Empire that lay along the Rhine. 'See there are no women among them. They are all men,' the hard-pressed Germans are reported to have said. Out of this no-woman legend some say the name All-Man has developed in its various forms, the most common in America being Allemong, Allemang, Allamen, Alleman, and Allaman.

Origin: I'm researching my paternal grandmother Lomina Rose Lemere Cyr. I know very little about her. I think she was born in New Hampshire in 1885. Her parents were George and Emily Swanor, who could have been from Quebec. Lomina married Paul Cyr on 22 June 1904 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, Hyde Park, MA. All 7 of their children were born in Hyde Park.. Lomina died in 1939 and is buried at Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park, MA.

Origin: !FLEMING SURNAME HISTORY
by Paul McCotter

!The majority of Irish Flemings must descend from the many individual Flemings who settled throughout the Anglo-Norman colonial area at the time of the invasion. Certainly the name occurs in virtually every colonial county in the Justiciary Rolls of the period 1295-1314. A particularly important family of the name were lords of Slane in County Meath.

The surname is scattered throughout Ireland and those in the three southern provinces certainly descend in general from settlers of the Anglo-Norman period. In Ulster most Flemings must descend from seventeenth century Scottish settlers, Fleming being a leading Scottish surname although ultimately of the same origin as the Irish name.
