The Bazler Family
My Great Great Great Grandfather is John Austin Bazler (b. 1795-d. 1891) was born in Wurtemberg, Germany. He came to the United States in the early 1800's with two brothers and possibly his father. He settled in Chillicothe, Ohio around 1818. John settled in Ohio and one brother settled in the New York area. The other brother settled in the Indiana area or traveled back to Germany. John married Elizabeth Legg (Lake) on November 18, 1821. Elizabeth was born in Virgina (possibly London County) but her family was of English decent. Together, John and Elizabeth had nine children. They were Margaret (1825-1905), Thomas (1831-1915), George (1835-????), Andrew (1836-????), Augustus (1840-1907), Elizabeth, (1843-1902), John (1845-????), Louisa (????-????), and William (????-????). The family made bricks and later sold machinery and buggy parts for a living. John A. Bazler is buried in Greelawn Cemetary located in Chillicothe, Ohio. Augustus Bazler is my Great Great Grandfather. Although he was born in Chillicothe he later moved to Columbus, Ohio. He enlisted into the Union Army in October 1862 to fight in the Civil War. He was a Private in the Company G, Regiment 113 Ohio Infantry. His discharge date was July 25, 1865. Shortly after he was discharged from the war he married Ottelia Palm on August 10, 1885. In the late 1800's he worked as a machinist with a company in Columbus, Ohio. Together Augustus and Ottelia had ten children. They were Bessie (1883-1959), Colonel (1885-1906), Blondena (1886-1909), Wallace (1888-1955), Verona (1891-1938), Mae (1898-1998), Howard (????-????), Earl (????-????), Ernest (????-????), and Edith (????-????). My Great Grandfather is Wallace Bazler. Wallace came to Scioto County, located in Southern Ohio, as a small child. He was raised in the vicinity of Third & Market Streets in Portsmouth, Ohio which is situated near the Ohio River. He enlisted in the National Army on July 25, 1918. He served in the 31st Company, 8th Battalion 158 Depot Brigade. He received a Honorable discharge as a private on December 16, 1918. Also in 1918, he married Pearl Ann Spence. Together they had seven childern. They were Jack (1923-1996), Donald (1925-1964), James (????-????), Mildred (????-????), Ruth (????-????), Alma (????-????), and Mary (????-????). They had 7 children: Wilhelmine, Augusta, Frederick, Ernestine,Mary, William and August. Charles Gotlieb ULRICH (1839-1913) was born in Hammermuchle,Germany and died in Dewitt, Nebraska. BALCH FAMILY from ENGLAND to CANADA
The family of James Balch (b.1845) came to Canada by ship in 1909 - that is, his wife Sarah and children came without him to the new world. James' son, also James (b. 1879) met and married his wife Alice Margaret Scattergood in Canada, and that is the beginning of the London, Ontario Balch family. James (b.1879) had a brother George who settled in Toronto and had family, some of whom now live in British Columbia, and a sister Mildred (Stone) settled in the Vancouver, BC area and also had family. One brother of James (b.1879), namely John William Balch, b. Sept. 5, 1881 in Caterham, Surrey, who married Queenie QUELCH, did not come to Canada. He became a butcher, and died before 1965. Nothing is known of this family except that there was a son Morris born about 1910 in England. This is our lost branch. James (b.1845) came from a large family,(Mary Anne, Patience, Jane, Emily, Linford George, Clara, and Arthur) all of whom were born in Caterham, Surrey. Linford Balch, a brother of James b.1853 has an extensive family still in England. The Balch family tended to be tailors, and later also butchers (introduced by the Bryant family). The oldest Balch we can safely claim heir to was James Balch b. 1815 and baptised in St. Martin's in the Field (London, England). He became a tailor in Downing Street and moved to Caterham in 1834. There he married Betsy Bryant, daughter of Henry Bryant and Patience Roffey (or Roffe). |

Edward Bently Gilder, Head Maggie Reese Gilder, Wife Alice Gilder, Daughter, born June 29th, 1896 Gertrude Gilder, Daughter, born about 1894 Edward and Maggie had one more daughter in 1901...Marian, and then Maggie died when Marian was 4 or 5 (1905-1906). Edward was born around 1864 and immigrated to this country from England around 1890. His wife was Maggie Reese, born around 1874 in Philadelphia. Maggie died around 1905 in Philadelphia. Maggie had one sister Elsie. Frederick Buchler married Marian Gilder on May 26th, 1924. Frederick was born in Pennsylvania on Dec 11th, 1887. He had two older brothers, Augustus and William. All of them were born in Pennsylvania, but either one or both of their parents were born in Germany. Frederick's birth certificate lists his parents as Joseph and Mrs. Biehler, but his Baptismal Certificate lists his parents as Frederick Bichler and Elizabeth Fillers, and still another record (his Funeral book) lists his Parents as Augusta and Elizabeth Buchler.
