Origin: Lapham meaning 'Lap' and 'Ham' is said to have derived from East Anglia in the UK. Lap is supposedly from Loppa, a man of the forest or tree cutter. Whilst Ham means homestead or place of dwelling. Yet there is also some debate that it derives from the welsh meaning for stone.

Origin: Here is another origin of the name 'Lapham'. It comes from Bertha Bortle Beal Aldrich's book 'Laphams in America, 13,000 Descendants', page 11.

"The word Lapham means 'hearthstone or home stone' and is taken from the word lapis, stone and ham or helm, meaning home.
Some of the Laphams lived in Norfolk, England and it is said that in earlier times the family flourished in Scotland and Wales."
