Origin: Parkhurst is of Norman and French derivation, beig composed of "parc" (French for park) and "hurst"(Anglo-Saxon word for wood). The name dates back to the entrance of William the Conqueror in England, and the derivation of the word suggests that it was contemporaneous with the beginning of French influence in England. The word "Parkhurst" first appears in the Doomsday book, published in 1086 which mentions "Parkhurst Forest" on the Isle of Wight. This was the earliest recorded royal park, normally held by the government. Near this is a village called Parkhurst. (Murray's Handbook of Surrey, Hants and the Isle of Wight, 1876).

Origin: The Rickhuss name breaks down into two parts:

Rick and Huss.

Rick is a formulization of the personal family name of Richard, of Welsh origin.

Huss is derived from John Huss (originally known as Jan Hus) who was the
procaster of the Huss movement and the Hussite wars. See below information as
this is the only historical part of the Rickhuss name.

It is very likely that a follower of John Huss moved to Wales around 1450,
probably to spread the word of the Hussites, upon there being Richard Huss who
may have been a leader or well known in his area the personal name became
Rickhuss along with many alternatives, Rikus, Ricas being the main roots.

It appears that Rickhuss is the singular root by which all similar names are
derived.

The family name Huss appears across most of Northern Europe and has been merged
into other family names.

The personal name Rickhuss is originally found no-where in the world apart from
the Welsh and Shropshire area. All Rickhuss root names can be traced to this
area.

Previous findings that Rickhuss has any German or Scandinavian roots are
incorrect. There is a link with a Barnhard Rickus to Germany but there is no evidence to link any of English origin, yet in Low German rickuss means house in the swamp.

This can be proved by a lack of historical information on the Rickhuss name in
any other European country previous to 1767.

1767 is the first proven documented date for the personal name Rickhuss.
(Christening of Elizabeth Rickhuss, Much Wenlock, shropshire)
