Origin of Jame, Meaning of Jame
Origin: The Hemphill name was given to us after we fled Scotland to Ireland. (According to family lore, it was Jameson prior to that) The Hemphills or "Hemphillers" as they were known, were named after their trade. They grew hemp for the weaving of fishing nets and other materials. However, their methods were unique. The Hemphill's grew the hemp on the side of a hill. It became our name, Hemphill, because of this.
