my great grandfather, John/Jonas Heinrich Thomsen came to this country in the early 1900's from Germany. His date of birth is January 24, 1857 in Witbeckfield, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and he died December 10, 1937 in Winside, NE. He is buried at Valley View Cemetery in rural, Persia, IA. He was married to Margarethe Hansen in 1879 in Germany. She died in Germany in 1901 and is buried there. They had 8 children: Christine, Alvina, Hans, Margaretha, Mathilde, Johanna, Peter and Emma. They all entered this country through Ellis Island and their destination was Fritz Thomsen (brother of John)in Persia, IA. family of Nico Bohm. He was born in Germany July 20, 1882 and was killed in a farming accident by Winside, Nebraska March 29, 1946. He had one sister, Lucie Bohm Nissen that lived in Minnesota. DANIEL BAILEY (1799-1864) born in New York State, had two sons: His oldest son, EPHRAIM R. BAILEY, (1830-1894) never married and moved to Tama Co, Iowa in 1860 to farm. CHARLES S. BAILEY, (1843-1916) was born in St. Lawrence County, Edwards, New York on 19 July 1843. The Bailey family moved to Tama Co, Iowa around 1856 and settled in the town of Toledo. Charles enlisted into the 10th Iowa Infantry in 1861 and was discharged in 1865. Charles married Margaret E. Fisher (1844-1917) in Toledo, Iowa. They had two children, LEONA A. BAILEY (1867-1922) and FRED A BAILEY, (1870-1953). The family moved to Buffalo Co, Shelton, NE in 1873 to continue farming. FRED BAILEY married MAY E. CALKINS (1868-1898) and moved to Omaha, NE. LEONA BAILEY married NATANIAL A. SMITH (1863-1903), and moved to Dawes Co, Crawford, NE EPHRAIM stayed in Tama Co until the 1890's and died in Shelton NE in 1894. DANIEL BAILEY died in 1864 in Toledo, Iowa at the age of 64 years. DANIEL BAILEY from New York State, (1820 - 1850). He spent at least 20 years in the town of Edwards, N.Y. and remarried a second time around 1840. DANIEL could have had another son and daughter. The origins of this family start in Ancient Judea and stretch to Medieval Spain and Southern France and the town of Lunel where the Ha-Yarchi families lived until late 1300's- early 1400's. The family then moved North and East into the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in what became the province of Minsk Gubernia in present day Belarus. The tows of Baranovitch, Slutsk ,Turov and Kletsk and the surrounding towns were where they lived during the 1700's and 1800's. The earliest named ancestor was Zimel Yarcha(1750-1800). His descendents spread to other areas of Russia such as Pinsk, Minsk, Yekatrinoslav and Yousovka before leaving for Israel,England,Belgium,Argentina and most to the USA. I was able to trace Jonas to Omaha, NE were he registered for WWI. Jonas sister Edna Arlene married Eldon Sherman Clapp and had 3 children: Fred, George, Hazel. She died in Brockton. The Wielgosz and Wanex families originated in Poland. |
