Origin: Two Hoskins were among the Norman invaders who accompanied William the Conquerer as he overran King Harold's army late in 1066. The name Hoskins is found predominantly in the Suffolk/London section of Southeastern England. The main Virginia Hoskins clan descends from Bartholomew Hoskins who came to Virginia from England in 1614. He was a son of John Hoskins, barrister and member of Parliament who committed funds to the settlements in Virginia by 1606. Bartholomew appears to have had a brother named Bennet or Bennett Hoskins who may have emigrated to eht eastern shore of area of Virginia/Maryland some years later, but that is conjectural and lacking proof at this time. Another Hoskins family may have arisen in New England as well. The Virginia Hoskins regard Higham Castle near Cumberland, England as their ancestral home, and their coat of arms is identical to that at Higham Castle.

Origin: The first part of the name 'Yel' was thought to refer to a well, or source of water, the 'ton' was town or village. Thus the name was most likely a local source of water. I have several document which give more detail, drop me a line if you want one. Btw: In my line 'Yelvington' had a silent Y, and was changed to Elvington. This is an old English & Irish line.

Origin: From several sources I find the Reding surname with one 'd' apparently comes from Luxembourg originating in the area around Meysembourg. I am however aware of Redings from Switzerland also spelled with one 'd', but I can find no connection between them and the Luxembourg line. Reddings with two 'D's' appear to have origins in England and Ireland.

Origin: Origin of surname is believed to be man from Tyrol or Tyroliger. As the language changed this became Trollinger. Some anecdotal evidence can be found in the wine grape known as Trollinger which produces a wine similar in taste to a chianti. Origin: Eddings originated from all info ive been able to gather...in Scotland and is a bastardization of the name Edin. The Eddings family were blood relatives of King James II of Scotland and were hunted down by the British Throne as they wanted to kill off any possible heirs to the throne...some of them escaped by coming to America. I believe the first Eddings in America to be William and Racheal Eddings who arrived near Frogmore,South Carolina in the late 1600s with a land grant given to them by the colony.

The family inheriting the land, castle and perogatives took the name Nottingham. The first Earl of Nottingham was Charles Howard (1536-1624) a first cousin to Elizabeth I. Origin: Earliest records reveal that in 1273 Michael de Gingedale held tenure of land owned by monks of Glastonbury, Somerset that remained in the family until 1664. During this five century period members of the family moved, via the Manor of Garsdon, to Wiltshire and neighbouring counties.
