He also had a Sister Bassie Davis She is my Great Grand Aunt Richard & Mary - they called her Bambi had only one child my Grand Father Samuel Davis aka (Samuel Jofar) Born 1883,in Richmond, Virginia. He ran away from home and was able to pass as white; He joined the Merchant Marine and lived in Brazil with a Family named Jofar. After he returned to America and rejoined his family he told them that Davis was a Slave name and his free name was Jofar. He would never use that name again he was not a slave to any Man, His father did not like this and there were many family arguments about it. Samuel Jofar married Ella Pierman my Grandmother she was Born 1884 in Lynchburg, Virginia the Jofar & Davis family arrived in Phoenix, Arizona about 1915 Just before the Birth of my Mother Wyona Jofar-Beasley. Samuel Jofar Became one of the 1st Black Doctor's in the state of Arizona He was a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine His Office was located near 11th Street & Washington in Phoenix, Arizona He was also a Barber And I still can remember my 1st hair cut as a child. Richard & Mary Davis are buried at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona Samuel & Ella Jofar are buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona The Children of Samuel & Ella Jofar are: Wyona L. Married 2nd, Lavinia Alice in 1892 in South Norfolk County, Virginia. I believe William J. J. Wilder's father to be Michael Wilder who was married to Mary Askew. My father was Ray Ervin Wilder born Sept. 30 1914 in South Norfolk County, Virginia to Rosa Estelle Smith and William Joseph Wilder, Jr. son of William J.J.Wilder and 1st wife Sarah. My mother was Cletus Lenora Simpson born June 1, 1914 in Rockingham County, NC. |

Denver and Louise Simpson were my maternal grandparents. Denver was born on April 21st,1909 in Harlan County Kentucky. He was the son of Robert Bob & Allie (Simpson) Simpson. Louise was born on August 13th,1910 in Harlan County Kentucky. She was the daughter of Leander Lee Preston & Allie (Saylor) Russell. Denver and Louise married on October 19th,1928 at Wallins Creek, Harlan County Ky.They had 9 children: 1.Bobbie Simpson b. 2-7-1930 2.Billie Rose Simpson b. 5-14-1932 3.Robert Simpson b. 3-30-1934 4.Wanda Lou Simpson b. 2-8-1937 5.Georgia Jeanette Simpson b. 9-22-1939 6.Janice Annabelle Simpson b. 8-29-1942 7.Jimmie Louise Simpson b. 9-7-1945 8.Burma Gail Simpson b. 1-24-1949 9.Olivia Simpson b. 5-8-1951 All of the children were born in Coldiron, Harlan County, Kentucky for except Olivia,who was born in Wallins Creek. Denver passed away on September 15th,1960 at his home in Coldiron,Ky. Louise Passed away on October 8th,1989 at the H.A.R.H in Harlan County Ky. Denver is buried in the Coldiron Cemetery in Coldiron, Harlan County Ky. Louise is buried in the Russell Family graveyard on Abe Hill at Coldiron. |
