Dressel, John J./ Riley, James E.
Description: John J. Dressel was married to Louise Burns they met on a ship from Europe. He was German and she was from Scotland. He died 1928 and she died 1929 in Albany, New York. My grandmother was Edna Janet b 11/7/1891 d 11/17/1934. My mother's uncle was John J. Dressel b 1/9/1894 d7/22/1977, He married in his 30's. They also had Lydia Louise d at age 21 and Elizabeth she died at birth. They lived on S. Pearl
or Alexander Sts. My great gandfather was 1 of 7 children that came to the USA. They all settled in Buffalo, then John moved to Albany. Why he didnt like the weather. The 6 brothers all had trade skills. John was a Butcher. I know of only 1 brother, Wiilliam, mom called him uncle Bill. I found the name Dressel Bros. & Gerheim in the Buffalo free press. I have looked at almost every free sites I can, and can not get many hits on the name Dressel. I have not found anything at Ellis Inland. Passenger list should show 7 Dressel name. I really hate to buy information.
I get to the last page and its you can have it for only 29.99 My mothers father was James E. Riley and her mother was Edna Janet Dressel.
Which is another whole story. James E. Riley was b3/15/1888 d 12/25/1970 at Walled Lake, Mi.
I feel the Dressel's came to the USA some time before 1891. And James E. Riley Sr. came before 1888, I maybe wrong, my grandfather could have been born in Ireland. His mother was Rose Catherine Rouche (Roach), her mother was a Kipatrick. So if I can help you or you me Please let me know. I have some pictures.

Description: Looking for my ancestors across the pond. Family information is sketchy - it is said that there were 7 brothers who came from Scotland (although someone said it might have been a town on the border of Ireland) to the U.S. and split up, going to different States (Illinois, PA, CA, etc.). My line settled in Virginia (Rappahannock/White Stone area). The oldest relative I can find (1880 Census) is Frederick M. Hutchinson (F.M.) who's wife was Rosa Lee (Riley). Anyone with information about the seven brothers (farmers) who came to the U.S. together, please drop me a line. Many thanks.

Description: Looking for the ancestors of the "allusive" BENJAMINl CARPENTER , born abt. 1774 in Coventry, Kent Co., Rhode Island, and died bef. November 12, 1844 in Carpenter Hollow, Clinton Twp., Wyoming Co., Pennsylvania. He married FREELOVE BAILEY Abt. 1798, daughter of SAMUEL BAILEY and ROBE WEBB. She was born January 05, 1778 in Coventry, Kent Co., Rhode Island.

There are vary few records to verify Benjamin's information or ancestry. However, most information indications that he may be a direct descendant of William Carpenter of Providence, Rhode Island. Tradition states that Benjamin was born in Coventry, Rhode Island, as was his wife Freelove and settled in South Kingston where there first child, Peleg was born. Benjamin and his family departed Rhode Island in the Summer of 1801 to colonize new land in northeast Pennsylvania known as Beech Woods or "The Beech" as it was called until it's incorporation in 1806 as Abington Township. Upon arrival in northeast Pennsylvania, Benjamin took claim to land at the west end of the Lithia Valley near ,what is now, the town of Factoryville and established his homestead of approximately 200 acres. This area became known as "Carpenter Hollow" and is still known by that name to this date.

Note: The town of Bailey Hollow (now Dalton) in Abington Twp. Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania was settled by Benjamin's brother-in-law George Anson Bailey

Children of BENJAMIN CARPENTER and FREELOVE BAILEY were:
PELEG CARPENTER, b. April 16, 1801; d. June 25, 1863; m. Lydia Colvin
GEORGE CARPENTER, b. March 24, 1802; d. April 25, 1861m. Sarah Capwell
MARY CARPENTER, b. Abt. 1804; d. September 30, 1893; m. Stephen Whitman

SAMUEL CARPENTER, b. August 29, 1808; d. October 14, 1869; m. Minerva Wall
WILLIAM W. CARPENTER, b. May 01, 1809; December 03, 1895; m. (1) Catherin E. Shaw, (2) Fannie McKown
SARAH CARPENTER, b. August 07, 1811; d. February 19, 1879; m. Bartholomew Capwell
BENJAMIN CARPENTER, b. April 23, 1813; d. February 18, 1884; m. Elizabeth M. Brown
