Many of the Burkett kin served in the civil war and some died of sickness and some died in battle. My gg-grandfather Evan lived to be an old man and is buried at Sims cemetery beside his wife Katherine. He does not have a civil war marker on his tombstone. There is a small child buried between them that family legend has it was left in there wagon one morning. They found the child there and never knew where it came from but they loved it and cared for it as their own until it died. My grandfather Wally Robert Burkett served in WW1.
