ADWELL GENERATIONS: THE TEXANS
Adwell Generations starts with three brothers from Ireland coming here in the mid 1750s and settling in Tennessee and then migrating to The Barrens in Kentucky. John Samuel Adwell and his family migrated to Texas from Kentucky in the early nineteen hundreds.THey came by wagon train. In Texas, John Samuel and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth, were among the first settlers at Itasca. They ran a grocery store for a while. My grandfather Sylvester Adwell, bailed hay at one time. He was also a photographer and had a studio along with his borther-in-law Luther Donoho. He then went into the feed business with a friend who was also a cousin, by the last name of Arterburn. This is what he was doing at the time of his untimely death in 1927 at the age of fifty-three. My father, Lee Golda Adwell and mother Katherine Naomi Gilbert ran a grocery and market there for many years until 1974 when Dad's health would no longer permit him to work. At this time they moved to Arlington, Texas, where they resided until their deaths. They are both buried in City Cemetery in Itasca. Minia Adwell maried and lived in Itasca until her death. Lular Adwell married Luther Donoho and lived in Itasca and then Grandview, Texas where she and her husband are both buried. Mary AdKatherine Amon |
