I believe this Baker line to have originated in Holland as BACKER and anglicized to BAKER in late 17th century New Utrecht before settling in the Province of East Jersey. John Allen appeared in the late 1700's in upstate New Jersey as a settler. George Hammett was a Revolutionary War soldier lived near Culpepper, Virginia and in the 1790's moved from Virginia, to Scioto County, Ohio, where he lived until the 1830's. His family moved to Mankato, Minnesota, where they were located until the 1930's. Jan Vevle Allen comes from a long line of Norwegian Vevle's who came to the United States in the 1800's from the Vevle farm near Bergen, Norway. Joseph Valtinson was the son of Norwegian immigrants who came to the United States, also from a area near Bergen, Norway. |
