my great grandfather, John/Jonas Heinrich Thomsen came to this country in the early 1900's from Germany. His date of birth is January 24, 1857 in Witbeckfield, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and he died December 10, 1937 in Winside, NE. He is buried at Valley View Cemetery in rural, Persia, IA. He was married to Margarethe Hansen in 1879 in Germany. She died in Germany in 1901 and is buried there. They had 8 children: Christine, Alvina, Hans, Margaretha, Mathilde, Johanna, Peter and Emma. They all entered this country through Ellis Island and their destination was Fritz Thomsen (brother of John)in Persia, IA. family of Nico Bohm. He was born in Germany July 20, 1882 and was killed in a farming accident by Winside, Nebraska March 29, 1946. He had one sister, Lucie Bohm Nissen that lived in Minnesota. Edward Bently Gilder, Head Maggie Reese Gilder, Wife Alice Gilder, Daughter, born June 29th, 1896 Gertrude Gilder, Daughter, born about 1894 Edward and Maggie had one more daughter in 1901...Marian, and then Maggie died when Marian was 4 or 5 (1905-1906). Edward was born around 1864 and immigrated to this country from England around 1890. His wife was Maggie Reese, born around 1874 in Philadelphia. Maggie died around 1905 in Philadelphia. Maggie had one sister Elsie. Frederick Buchler married Marian Gilder on May 26th, 1924. Frederick was born in Pennsylvania on Dec 11th, 1887. He had two older brothers, Augustus and William. All of them were born in Pennsylvania, but either one or both of their parents were born in Germany. Frederick's birth certificate lists his parents as Joseph and Mrs. Biehler, but his Baptismal Certificate lists his parents as Frederick Bichler and Elizabeth Fillers, and still another record (his Funeral book) lists his Parents as Augusta and Elizabeth Buchler. Thomas W Baine v - InterneTree Report: Ancestors of Thomas William Baine, V Our BAINE ancestors came from Devon, England, then through to Kildare, Ireland, before settling near Cairo, Illinois, and our branch finally making their way down to Jacksonville, Florida. The WILSON family came from Statesboro, Georgia, where they had been since after the American Revolution. Our TURNER family came originally from North Carolina, but moved to Kansas City, Kansas, before making their way to Georgia. The DOWNING ancestors were of mixed Cherokee Indian and English descent. They were from Southern Georgia, and married into the Henderson clan of Pearson, Georgia. 1. Colonel Richard Lee, the Emigrant (1610-1664)- Patriarch of the Lees of Virginia. 2. Rev. John Robinson, M.A., the famed Apostle of Leyden (1575-1624) - Pastor of the Pilgrims in Holland, and spiritual leader of them when they came to Plymouth. 3. Colonel Nicholas Greenberry (1627-1697)-Royal Governor of Maryland in the 1690's. Early settler of Maryland. 4. King Henry VII (1456-1509)- King of England from 1485-1509; founder of the Tudor Dynasty. Ended the Wars of the Roses. 5. King William I the Conqueror (1027-1087)- Norman noble who conquerored England from his cousin, King Harold. Founded the modern English monarchy as we now know it. 1. General Robert E. Lee (1807-1870)-Cousin; Commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the American Civil War. 2. James Knox Polk (1795-1849)- Cousin; Eleventh President of the United States, Governor of Tennessee, and Speaker of the House of Representatives. 3. Millard Fillmore (1800-1874)- Cousin; Thirteenth President of the United States. 4. Salmon Portland Chase (1808-1873)- Cousin; Abraham Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, United States Senator, Governor of Ohio, and lawyer. 5. Lewis Cass (1782-1866)- Cousin; United States Senator; Governor of Michigan. |

He immigrated to North America in August 1981. With him traveled his bride-to-be Maria Hannebaum. Maria Hannebaum's family lived in the Belleville and Millstadt, IL areas. Following Maria's death, Henry Althoff married Charlotte Schilling Weber. She was the daughter of Carl F.G. Schilling and Carolina Stuhmeier. Carl Schilling geb. 8.4.1820 in Volmerdingsen, Germany and Wilhelmine Caroline Charlotte Stuhmeier geb. 5.9. 1829 in Volmerdingsen, immigrated to America in 1883.
