The origins of this family start in Ancient Judea and stretch to Medieval Spain and Southern France and the town of Lunel where the Ha-Yarchi families lived until late 1300's- early 1400's. The family then moved North and East into the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in what became the province of Minsk Gubernia in present day Belarus. The tows of Baranovitch, Slutsk ,Turov and Kletsk and the surrounding towns were where they lived during the 1700's and 1800's. The earliest named ancestor was Zimel Yarcha(1750-1800). His descendents spread to other areas of Russia such as Pinsk, Minsk, Yekatrinoslav and Yousovka before leaving for Israel,England,Belgium,Argentina and most to the USA. ANNETTA is my father's father's surname. I know the family comes from Calabria, Italy. BEVILAQUA is my father's mother's maiden surname. I believe her family also came from Calabria, Italy, but quite possibly Naples, Italy. GUARDINO is my mother's father's surname. I know the family come from a small town on the southern shore of Sicily called Sciacca (sp?). GARATINA is my mother's mother's maiden surname. I know very little except that the family has Italian origins. ALL FOUR Families settled in the New York City/Northern New Jersey area in the begining part of the 20th Century (about 1906-1920) |

Zervos, Nick and Maria from the island of Karpathos, Greece. They came to America in 1912. They settled in West Virginia and had 10 children. These are my maternal grandparents. My father was also from the island of Karpathos, Greece. His name was George Matthew Tsangarakis, and his parents were Matthew George Tsangarakis and Stamatina Makris. When my father, George, first came to America, the personnel at Ellis Island americanized his name from Tsangarakis to Sangerson, and he settled in West Virginia. He later settled his family in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. We lived there until 1967, when we moved to Denver, Colorado, where he passed away in 1980. He and my mother, Zoe Zervos Tsangarakis, had 3 children, Matthew George Tsangarakis (1936-1999), Mary Tsangarakis Mauries (1937- ) and Eva (Evangeline) Tsangarakis Andretsos (1939- ). My husband George Nick Andretsos was born in Roumeli, Greece (1929-1988). When he imigrated to America he settled in Illinois where his sister, Ritsa Mihalopoulos lived, until he moved to Denver and we were married in 1968. |

Descendants of LEWIS DENNY
Lewis Denny was of French parentage, having been born in 1740 in French Territory, near present day Cahokia, Illinois. When he was 18 years of age, he along with his brother Martin and a French Officer, went to fight in the French and Indian war. At Fort Niagara, he and his brother were taken prisoner by the Mohawk Indians. He married a Mohawk woman and settled at Canaseraga. Lewis son John, kept a road tavern and built the first frame house in the village of Canaseraga, which in 1823 became the town of Sullivan. John married Dorothea Dachstaeder (later becoming Doxtator) who was the daughter of Captain Honyere Tewahangarahken, alias Doxtader. John and Dolly's son, Abraham married Catherine Nellis, daughter of John Nellis. Abraham led the first band of Seneca Indians to Kansas and Missouri, where, according to his daughter, Mrs Jacob Doxtator (Catharine),so many sickened and died there. He came to Wisconsin and talked a few Oneidas, Stockbridge and Brothertown Indians to remove to Indian territory. On this trip he died on the Little Osage River. All of his children had removed to Wisconsin, including my great, great grandmother, Mary Ann Denny. Her son, Syrenius married a Brothertown woman, Harriet Elizabeth.
