Origin: Bauer-lein means peasant farmer, flax.Surnames were required to identify individuals for tax purposes sometime around the years1300-1400 and are identified in church recordsaccording to my reference (Howard Barnhart). He wrote a booklet on Andreas Byerly(Bauerlein) in April, 1991.

Origin: The surname eye is a very old name in different spelling's dating back to at least 67 A.D. I am currently doing research in Civil War Archives, and English Archives there are two towns in England named Eye,and probably more. I haven't gotten into the England Historical Archives yet.

The farthest back I can go is to a David Rappleyea b.1793 in New York. Married Effie VanSlyke. Lived in Erie County. Once owned land in Amherst. One of his sons was Isaac Rappleyea b. 1820 Tonawanda.
