Descendants of Ferdinand and Gustine (Schulze) Arendsee
Johann Gottlob Ferdinand Arendsee was born 9 December 1811 in Dueringshoff, Brandenburg, Prussia, to Christian Arendsee and Rosine Loeffler. Johanna Charlotte Gustine Schulze was born 15 August 1820 in Dueringshoff, Brandenburg, Prussia, to Johann Friedrich Schulze and Maria Louise Schwann. Ferdinand and Gustine were married in Prussia and had 11 children, all born in Prussia. Ferdinand and Gustine came to America with four of their children in 1872 and settled on a farm near Westfield, Marquette Co., Wisconsin. All but two of their other children also came to America between 1866 and 1872. The children and grandchildren settled mainly in Wisconsin, Minnesota, So. Dakota, Illinois, and Saskatchewan, Canada. Also, Greethusum, which I believe is in the Netherlands. I have also found information which refers to Ostfriedsland -- such as, Manslagt, Ostfriesland, Germany. The dates these ancestors came to America was around 1874 to 1884. |

I just started researching both branches of my family. Surnames on the paternal side of the family include Adams, McGrew, Shepler, and Endsley. The families were from Ohio, around Cadiz, Hopedale, and Harrison County. Rumor has it a branch of the McGrew family was in Utah, near Salt Lake City.The maternal side of the family includes such surnames as Lynch, Caton, Henck, Arnold, Haggerty, Haines, Rush, and Rishel. Most of these families can be traced to West Virginia -- Clifton Mills and Preston County. I can only trace the families back to the mid 1800's and would appreciate any information that would help me extend the branches further back. William Adams, born in 1836 in Cadiz, OH, married Mary Margaret Endsley. Mary Margaret was born in 1844 in Cadiz, OH. They moved to Connellsville, PA. They had the following children: Frank, John Q., Reno, Grace, Harriet, Mary and Clara. Looking for information on William and Mary Margaret's parents and all the children with the exception of John Q.J. Stanton McGrew married Mae Shepler. Both were from Harrison County, OH. I am currently beginning my search by looking for information about my paternal grandparents, George Henry Abendschein and Laura A (Comstock)Abendschein. George Henry was born 1889 in Rutland N.Dakota. George H died 1961 in Whitefish MT. George H began work with the Great Northern Railway and was with the GN for over 54 years. George H married Laura A Comstock of Breckenridge MN in Whapton ND in 1912 and had 3 children Gertrude L and Leroy and George D. Gertrude passed away a the age of 5 yrs and Leroy passed away shortly after birth. George D. is my father. George H., had two brothers Walter and Henry and a sister Louetta (Abendschein) Schriber.
