Origin: As far as my family in Sweden knows, and according to the old papers and books we've got on the subject, it is an old family from Fehmarn in Germany ( though then it belonged to Denmark). It then moved north where it eventually got to what is now Scania,in the south of Sweden. There is also an extension of this family in Finland, since a man moved there in the 18th century. In Sweden it's a relatively small family now, mainly living in Stockholm.

Origin: Langnau IE, Switzerland in late 1400's took the surname Gysi. This surname was based upon his occupation of being a whipper in those days a whipper was called a Gyseler. But Arst Gysi did not want this name because his brother had already taken it so he decided to be original and still base his name on his occupation but however change the spelling from gyseler to Gysi - Gysi was a whipper or chaser of wild dogs from the town as his brother and father were also, this name today in some places is spelt Geesey
