Origin of Ehr, Meaning of Ehr
Origin: Lehrer is a German word meaning teacher. Therefore, the origin must have been occupational. I have traced the family back as far as the seventeenth century (Rhineland , Germany). Lehrer became Lair on 9 July 1799 when Catherine Lehrer signed her last will and testament in Rockingham County, Virginia in the presence of three witnesses. This Anglicizes the German Lehrer to Lair.

Origin: From what I've heard, the name Farabaugh didn't exist until fairly recently when a couple brothers moved from Germany to Pennsylvania sometime between 1850 and 1857. The two brothers, that I know of, that moved to Cambria Co, PA were Augustin and Michael. Before they called themselves Farabaugh's, they called themselves Fehrenbacher's.
