Harnett County North Carolina was formed in 1855 from Cumberland County. My ancestors were there long before this took place. Solomon Bales (Bayles) bought his land in 1816, married and raised his children. Many of his descendants can still be found in Coats and the surrounding communities. The Upchurch?s originated in England came to North Carolina in the 1700?s. Benjamin Upchurch, thought to be a descendant of Michael Upchurch, came to Harnett from Franklin County. In 1850 he married Arabella Medlin and they began their family. |

I am a direct decendent of Edward Fitz Randolph, the pilgrim, who arrived in MA in 1630 on one of the ships of the Winthrop Fleet. He married Elizabeth Blossom and they later moved to New Jersey. My Fitz Randolphs (now just Randolph) are connected through two of Edward's and Elizabeth's grandsons -- Joseph, the son of Joseph Fitz Randolph and Joanna Conger, and Nathaniel, the son of Benjamin Fitz Randolph and Sarah Dennis. Joseph's son, Paul, married Nathaniel's daughter, Ann, and my line is through them. My line of Fitz Randolphs moved from MA NJ PA KS OK. Some went on to California at the turn of the century. Lile family who lived in TN & Missouri, moved to Linn Co. Kansas and came to Oklahoma during the run of 1893. My ggrandparents were William Handie and Jennie B. (Kohl) Lile. TN Mo KS OK. My Shockey Homepage
Shockey family of Western Pennsylvania, beginning with my great-great-grandfather John Valentine Shockey. It is believed that he was born in Somerset Co, PA, in 1819. I believe that John V was married twice, although I cannot find the first Mrs Shockey. He was married to Mary Ann Ort, perhaps in Maryland, one source saying in 1852, the year is 4th child and my great-grandfather, Matthew was born. Their children were: Philena Rachel, Abraham Christopher, Frances Ann, Matthew H, Kate Wood, George W, John W, Susannah, Amanda, Samuel Taylor, and Nancy. Matthew H Shockey, born 4 April 1852 in/near Curwensville, Clearfield Co, PA, and husband of Sarah Mary Broadhead of Reynoldsville, PA, was my great-grandfather. Their children were: Florence Elena, Ivan Richard, Fernley Thomas (my grandfather), Arden Abraham, Amy Marguarite, Edith Hannah, and Clarence Oliver. All of the children except Clarence were born in Rathmel, Jefferson Co, PA. Clarence was born in Kiskiminetas Twp, Armstrong Co, PA. |

Her mother was Lady Elizabeth Anne Nash and father Sir John Nash of England, their son, William Wesley, married Annie Josephine Brown of Edinburgh, Scotland.(These are my grandparents) Annie Brown's father was Adam Brown married to Anne Kelly (believe she was from Ireland). Martin Mellinger returned to Liditz, PA in 1863 after his medical discharge from the Army in Ohio. By 1865 Martin is in Stephenson Co, Illinois and marries Anna Sellers, also of PA. They have three daughter together, Mary, Sarah, and Emma Elizabeth. Emma and Sarah list Princeton Indiana as their place of birth. Sometime after Emma's birth in 1873, Martin and Anna divorced.
