Origin of Burke, Meaning of Burke
Origin: my family records trace back to 13th century in uist, scotland, where the name can be traced as Burk, a smaller branch of clan McDonald of uist. Brothers of Donald Burk of Benbecula are listed under the surname burke in some records and as burkye in others. Name traces through northern Ireland at the time of Robert the Bruces campaign in Ireland also list as Burkey- who remained in Ireland after the campaign had ended. Scarily the surname Burk seems to have originated in Ireland before the exodus to Dalriada in the 3rd and 4th centuries.
