Origin: Several origins are mentioned in a family history book published near the beginning of the 20th C. Llan bron is one such, coming from Welsh/Cymric for a fortified enclosure on a hill top. Other ideas suggest a French origin, but this seems to make the most sense in the larger sense of Lamborn history.

Origin of Bor, Meaning of Bor
Origin: The surname Borden seems to have been originally taken by residents of a village (of the same name) in Kent County, England.
According to J.K. Wallenberg's "The Place Names of Kent," BORDEN is from "bardenn," (Old English), and means "Boar Pasture," or "Field where wild boars graze." The OE "denn" is a variant of "dene" or "denu," which are both OE for "valley." Therefore, "Boar Valley" is also an acceptable definition, and sounds better in Modern English. As the village of Borden is situated "high on rising ground," the namesake "denn" or pasture land would likely be a valley.

Origin: The given (Dutch-boy) name Bor or Borre had a Germanic origin! It is a shortened form of the word: Bern with the (metaforic) meaning: brave man, warrior, hero. The Anglo-Saxon equivalent is Beorn. In about 1730 this Bor name very slowly became a Family name in he centre of the Netherlands around the town of Tiel. In my own Genealogy I sometimes found this combination like: Borre Bor a boy living in Ochten near Tiel (Gelderland)-Netherlands.

Origin: Borodell would appear to be a corruption or alternate spelling of Borrowdale, a small area in the English county of Cumberland, which does square with the supposed origin of John Borodell before he appears in Ireland in the 1600s. Could he have been one of the people 'planted' by Queen Elizabeth I in Ireland, given land for their loyal service to the crown?
Surnames: descendant of Denison/borodell
