Origin: In the American manner of signing documentation the X is used as a mark by someone who can not write their name. For Jacob Buhe (Booe) and others from Palatinate Germany, the mark was a distinctive scroll. When Jacob Buhe (Booe) signed his land transactions he signed his name. The English Parliament required that all documents be in English. In the official record book the name went from Buhe to Booe. When Christoph/Stophel Buhe, in 1767, Rowan County, North Carolina, was naturalized his name became Christoph Booe. The Booe name was used for the majority of the Buhe/Booe settlers.%0a%0aThe Booe family came from a fertile section from the upper Rhine in German called the Palatinate. The earliest known inhabitants of the Palatinate were highly civilized Celts. They settled in Transalpine Europe and the Iberian Peninsula during the sixth century before Christ. The celts were remarkable for their height and muscularity.
