Origin: Bhatnagar surname was followed by the descendants of Lord Chitragupta's second son named bhatnagar Rishi from his first or elder wife. Bhatnagar's are ' KAYASTHA', where 'kaya' means body of lord Brahma and 'asthi' means the bone structure:- meaning when lord Brahma finished making of brahminas from brain, f for all study & brain related works; Kshatriyas from arms, for for all arms related working i.e. warriors; vaishyas from stomach, i.e. to fill the stomach of all and arrange for the bussiness for the society; and Shoodras from his legs, to do all the cleaning, Hygiene related works; He made a man mixed with all the asthees of his body i.e. man made from sampoorna kaya ki asthi of Brahma - and named Kayastha. The Chitragupta Maharaj is doing all the accounts work of paap & punya of Yamaraj. he has two wives. elder has four sons:- Mathur, Bhatnagar, Srivastava & Saxena, the younger one had rest 8 main kayastha surnames. So those four are the upper kayasthas, waying Mathur's on the Top. rest 8 are lower ones.
