William L. Jackson
Description: William L. Jackson was my great-grandfather whom I never met. He was born between 1897 and 1899 and was married to Stella M. Packham (father was Robert Packham, mother was Fariba Stufflebean). They lived in St. Louis City, Buchanan County, Missouri according to the 1920 Census. I am not getting any further backwards because nobody ever met his kin. Word of mouth tells me that he travelled with his father in a covered wagon in the St. Joseph area prior to William being on his own. My great uncles and aunts remember hearing the name Leslie for William's father, but they aren't positive. They also say William's mother was a Native American. We don't have a name or any evidence of this. William is said to have had at least 2 sisters who lived at a hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri, as did many children whose parents couldn't afford them at that time. One of these sisters' names might be Maureen. William worked as a laborer for an iron company in 1920 and as a laborer for a grain elevator in 1930, according to census reports. If anyone has any additional information on my great-great grandfather or his family members, please contact me. Any clues are greatly appreciated as his second eldest daughter (and my grandmother) is getting on in age and I want to fill in some blanks for her. I only wish I'd been more interested in this before I hit my 40's! Thank you again for any help.
