Baichtal Genealogy Page Directory  Total Records: 1  The Baichtal Family Home Page Mr. Baichtal was born near Shamokin, Northumberland county, Pa., July 18, 1822. When a mere lad he walked to Ohio and worked there, saving money with which he brought his mother west. He went to Michigan and resided there a number of years in the vicinity of Buchanan. About the time of the gold excitement of 1849 in California he joined a caravan for the far west and crossed Iowa into Nebraska, but decided that this state offered a sufficient El Dorado for him, and turned back and settled in Dallas county at Adel. There on October 9, 1855 he married Mrs. Lousia Wright, who was his companion for over forty-seven years, dying at the beginning of the year 1903.
