After he returned to America and rejoined his family he told them that Davis was a Slave name and his free name was Jofar. He would never use that name again he was not a slave to any Man, His father did not like this and there were many family arguments about it. Samuel Jofar married Ella Pierman my Grandmother she was Born 1884 in Lynchburg, Virginia the Jofar & Davis family arrived in Phoenix, Arizona about 1915 Just before the Birth of my Mother Wyona Jofar-Beasley. Samuel Jofar Became one of the 1st Black Doctor's in the state of Arizona He was a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine His Office was located near 11th Street & Washington in Phoenix, Arizona He was also a Barber And I still can remember my 1st hair cut as a child. He married Wilhelmina Magdalena Schmidt, born in NYC November 16, 1863 and died December 04, 1918 in NYC George Schmidt (great grandfather) had a bakery at 831 1st Ave in NYC He was born Nov. 27, 1838 in Germany and died May 2, 1906. Rudolph Kast (great grandfather) he was a teacher and was born March 22, 1824 in Ettlingen, Germany and died in NYC January 15, 1899. He immigrated about 1869 and was married to Friederika Rauenbuhler, born in Rauenberg, Wiesloch, Baden, Germany, March 05, 1828. They were married in Germany and she immirgated from Germany to NYC with six of their children in 1873. She died in NYC March 14, 1908. Ebenezer Holcomb, Jr. (1765-1854) of Yates County, NY. The 1800 census for Mamakating Twp. In Ulster County, NY shows one Ebenezer Holcomb and one Ebenezer Holcomb, Jr. If the information I have on Ebenezer and his children with Susannah and Margaretta is correct, the Ebenezer, Jr. that's listed is my 3rd great-grandfather and the other Ebenezer is his father. Recent information indicates that Ebenezer Holcomb, Sr. may be the son of Return Holcomb 1st. my maternal grandmother, Louisa Merriman Hall. She is reliably reported to be of Cherokee descent. She was born in Kaseyville, Missouri on May 22, 1866 and died in Ryan, Oklahoma on November 26, 1912. On the 1910 census she stated that her mother was also born in Missouri and her father in North Carolina. Louisa was the second wife of John T. Vickers. They were married in Hickory Grove, KY on March 23, 1891 and lived in Pryorsburg, KY for several years before moving to Indian Territory (OK) in the late 1800s.
