Origin of Ax, Meaning of Ax
Origin: Dropping the tail off the high german Y results in an I. My great grandfather, Hinrich Cyriacks, upon immigrating to Wisconsin from the Bremen area of Germany in the 1870s allowed his name to be spelled Ciriacks, thus beginning the largest extant branch of the family going back to the 3rd century A.D. He has more than 400 descendents. The original name, either Cyriac, Cyriacus, Quiricus or Cyriax, depending upon whether Latin, Greek, or ancient German is used, is Greek and may have meant DEDICATED TO THE LORD when initially used around 2000 years ago.%0a%0aSee an example of the high german spelling at http://ciriacks.cyriac-fhp.com%0a%0a%0a

Origin of Ax, Meaning of Ax
Origin: This name is found in several counties of England, notably Norfolk and Wilts. This name and the name Baker are probably of similar origin and meaning. One John Baxter had head rights in Lower Norfolk, Virginia, in April, 1664; one William Baxter, from Virginia, was in Maryland from 1744 to 1770. Despite these early instances of the occurrence of the name among Virginians, Baxter is not a special Virginia name. A Baxter family settled in Bucks county, Pennsylvania, perhaps as early as 1682. The name seems to have died out in that county. There was also a Daniel Baxter a weaver, who came from Ireland, married in New Jersey, and died in Greene county, Pennsylvania, in 1808, having lived there about thirty years. There were other Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland Baxters at early dates. It seems to us most probable that the present family is descended from one of these stocks, the Bucks county family being again a more probable source than the Greene county, Delaware, or Maryland Baxters.

Origin of Ax, Meaning of Ax
Origin: The name was exported to England by the invading Saxons in 449 CE where it developed many new phonetic variations and was imported by the Norwegian Vikings to Norway when they raided England around 700 CE. These Norwegian Vikings later settled in the Contentin (western) region of Normandy, France around 933 CE where the name evolved from Asketill (10th century CE) to Anschetillus (11th century CE) to Anquetil (12th century CE) to Anctil (18th century CE). In 1734 CE, Jean Louis Anctil emigrated from Avranches, Normandy, France to Nouvelle France (Quebec, Canada) and established a family line, where the surname today is predominate. The Anctil family name can be found throughout the United Kingdom (former colonies included) and even most of the world today.

Origin of Ax, Meaning of Ax
Origin: The family originated in the area of West Lancashire in a small geographic area comprising a strip between Wigan in the South, and Preston in the North. The name is possibly taken from the village of Baxenden near Accrington.
The meaning of the name is "Bakestone Valley" from the Old English "Baecstan" + "denu" (Valley). Later the Middle English "dale" substituted for the OE "den".

Origin of Ax, Meaning of Ax
Origin: The name Saxena is of Anglo-Saxon origin and came from when the family lived in the parish of Saxby in the counties of Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. The surname Saxena is an example of a habitation name which forms broad category of surnames that were derived from place names. They were derived from pre existing names for towns, villages, parishes or farmsteads. As a general rule the greater the distance between an individual and their homeland, the larger the territory they were named after. For example, a person who only moved to another parish would be known by the name of their original village, while people who migrated to a different country were often known by the name of a region or origin country from which they came.
