The READ's seem to have come from Battersea or Chelsea. Harry worked with Metropolitan Police on The Isle of Dogs & Canning Town, London. They lived at Blackheath, London, then moved to Whitstable, Kent during 2nd World War. Both Henry (Harry) & Grace are deceased. Ronald William ASHDOWN lived in Hastings. He was a dispenser in a chemist's shop, & an officer in St John's ambulance in Hastings or St Leonard's, East Sussex. Ronald died in 1956-57 of leukemia. He served in India & Burma during the war, in Royal Army Medical corps. Ronald's father,Sydney Ashdown, lived in Hastings, but had been a master plumber in The Old Kent Road, London, where he ran a plumber's shop.Sydney Ashdown was married to my grandma, Emily Hills.
