Origin: What's in Your Name? If the present day Garners went on a genealogical hunt, they would go to France to trace the original family roots. The name would be found as Garneau & Garnier. Before it ever became a surname, Garnerius was a popular personal name during the 11th Century. The old French word of 'Germer' meant a storehouse for corn or grain' and the name was given to a man who worked at, or perhaps the keeper of the grainery. The latin 'granum' means 'seed'. The surname came to England from france at the time of the Conquest and is found written originally as Gerner. Geogrey gerner is recorded on Tax Rolls of Essex in 1272. William del Gerner lived in Lancashire, England in 1332.

Origin: The Doherty family belongs to that group of clans, known in the Celtic genealogy as Cinel Connell, whose homeland was called Dirconnell, modern county Donegal. These clans trace their origins to Conall Gulban, son of Niall of the Nine Hostages, High King of Ireland, A. D. 379. The ancient Gaelic name, O'Dochartaigh, is variously anglicized as Dogherty, O'Doherty, Dogherty and Daugherty. The original territory of the sept was the barony of Raphone and their stronghold was at Ardmire. Later they extended their way over all Innishown, the peninsula most commonly associated with the Doherty name today. The Annals of the Four Masters record one O'Doherty Chieftan as the chief of all Tirconnel in 1179, A. D. Dispite their dispersal and confiscation of their lands, the descendants of the Doherty clan today stands 15th in the list of commonest surnames in Ireland.

Origin: Parsley, according to my research is either a place name(saxon: Parr's leah, or Parr's grove), or a variant on Pashley, Paisley, Paslow, or Presley. The English name seems to be from northern England and southern Scotland, however, its also rumored to be Irish. There is also a group of Parsleys from Norway, but I have no knowledge if the two are connected. In the United States, Parsley is most often found in the southeast, around Tennessee, Virginia and Arkansas. The earliest American reference I found to the name was a death certificate from Virginia dated c.1720

Origin: This name is a Scottish name drived from two Scottish words, weard and laugh. (law) Weard means 'watch' and Laugh means 'hill'. (We have been called 'Weardlow' many times over the years. A Watch hill was used much as Paul Revere used Old North church. A lookout tower, only it was a hill, many of which are found in Scotland. Wardlaw and Wardlow are very well known in Scottish history and we believe the variance to be an aural misconception and the hearer just wrote down what they thought they heard. You may have been named Wardlaw just because your family lived very near one of these hills.

Origin: This is taken from a book entitled Scottish Surnames,1995, published by Harper Collins. Kinnear - In the reign of Malcolm IV (1153 - 65) a family of Norman origin was established in the north of Fife as vassals of the priory of St Andrews; the head of the family took his surname from the lands of Kinnear (probably Gaelic - caenn iar - 'west headland')now represented on the map only by a farm name. By 1296 Sir John de Kyner was important enough to have his name included in the Ragman Roll. Henry Kinnear of that Ilk was appointed commendator of Balmerino Abbey in 1574, and by this time the family had the lucrative monopoly of ferry crossings of the Tay at what is now Newport. George Kinnear was and Edinburgh banker in the early 19th century whose lovely wife was painted by Raeburn. The name, now found all over Scotland, may tend to be confused with Kinnaird.
