Origin of Alas, Meaning of Alas

Origin: Falasco - in Italian, it is the name for a pretty grass/flower that spreads over much of Italy's humid, moist regions. Its Latin designation is "Caldium (or Cladiun) Mariscus" which refers to the plant's growth in wet/swamp areas of Italy. A google search of "Falasco" lists this in greater detail. Perhaps the surname developed to name people living in or near these plants/grasses in some part of (southern) Italy. Another possibility, according to some, is that the surname Falasco developed from the Spanish surname, "Velasquez"; Spain controlled portions of Southern Italy for a considerable period of time, and numerous Spaniards lived in the region.
