His wife was Susan Holmes (b. abt 1819 at Conisbrough, Yorkshire. Both died of colera a few years after arriving in the States. Thomas died 10 August 1854, Susan three days later on 13th of August 1854 at Hennepin, Putman County Illinois. They left three children who were taken care of by goodly neighbors: Walter Ackroyd (b. 7 Aug 1846 at Conisborough), Charles John Ackroyd (b> 31 Mar 1849 at Rotherham, Yorkshire) and Caroline (b. 19 Dec 1852 at Hennepin, Putnam, Illinois) \r\n\r\nThe parents of Thomas Ackroyd were Joseph Ackroyd(b. abt 1772 at Edlington; d. 7 Apr 1834) and Ann Grayson (b. 23 Aug 1772 at Auterfield,Yorkshire; d. 22 July 1825) The grandparents of Thomas Ackroyd were Joseph Ackroyd (born abt 1750) and Hannah Suthers (b. 5 Jun 1750).
