Origin: I am trying to find out more on this surname myself. However the variant Brackenridge comes from Scotland. This def. came from a book. Dweller at fern ridge or hill, one who came from the lands of Brackenrig (ridge overgrown with bracken) in the old Barony of Avondale, in Lanarkshire. This was for my own use and I didn't write down the source.
