Origin of Aas Total Records: 2  Origin of Aas, Meaning of Aas Origin: It is said that this family was of German origin, and that the name was at first written Waas. At the present day it appears sometimes in the form Wees, sometimes with the addition thereto of a final 'e.' Jacob Wees, the first of the name in what is now West Virginia, was born in 1733, died in 1826. He was an early settler in Hardy county, Virginia, from which he removed to North Carolina; returning to Virginia after a short time, he settled in Randolph county. This settlement was made while there were still Indian troubles, and his family frequently took refuge in Wilson's fort. He was a man of influence in the community.
