He also had a Sister Bassie Davis She is my Great Grand Aunt Richard & Mary - they called her Bambi had only one child my Grand Father Samuel Davis aka (Samuel Jofar) Born 1883,in Richmond, Virginia. He ran away from home and was able to pass as white; He joined the Merchant Marine and lived in Brazil with a Family named Jofar. After he returned to America and rejoined his family he told them that Davis was a Slave name and his free name was Jofar. He would never use that name again he was not a slave to any Man, His father did not like this and there were many family arguments about it. Samuel Jofar married Ella Pierman my Grandmother she was Born 1884 in Lynchburg, Virginia the Jofar & Davis family arrived in Phoenix, Arizona about 1915 Just before the Birth of my Mother Wyona Jofar-Beasley. Samuel Jofar Became one of the 1st Black Doctor's in the state of Arizona He was a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine His Office was located near 11th Street & Washington in Phoenix, Arizona He was also a Barber And I still can remember my 1st hair cut as a child. Richard & Mary Davis are buried at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona Samuel & Ella Jofar are buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona The Children of Samuel & Ella Jofar are: Wyona L. The Jarcho-Yarcha-Turoff-Turow-Bermant families from Slutsk
The origins of this family start in Ancient Judea and stretch to Medieval Spain and Southern France and the town of Lunel where the Ha-Yarchi families lived until late 1300's- early 1400's. The family then moved North and East into the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in what became the province of Minsk Gubernia in present day Belarus. The tows of Baranovitch, Slutsk ,Turov and Kletsk and the surrounding towns were where they lived during the 1700's and 1800's. The earliest named ancestor was Zimel Yarcha(1750-1800). His descendents spread to other areas of Russia such as Pinsk, Minsk, Yekatrinoslav and Yousovka before leaving for Israel,England,Belgium,Argentina and most to the USA. The HANNIBAL Family lived in and around Lapeer County and Benzie County Michigan in the years:1836-1850. Charles Hannibal was born around 1801-possibly in New York. He was married to Elizabeth Case.Information found in the 1850 census in Michigan. Sons: Charles, Alonzo, Edgar,& Sterling; daughters: Sara & Maria. Alonzo Coleman HANNIBAL married Margaret HELMER(from Rainham, Ontario, Canada)in 1865 in Benzie County Michigan, and around the year 1872-1873 with 3 small children, migrated to Texas. Children: Harvey Judson, Henrietta, William Jacob; and later born in Missouri, Margaret Angela; and the last three children born in Texas, Elizabeth Arvilla, Emmie Dealza and Maudie Frances. Harvey Judson Hannibal married Sallie HUGHES in Ashley County, Arkansas in 1891 and had 2 sons. He was killed by neighbors in a dispute regarding his property around 1893-1894. William Jacob HANNIBAL married Nannie PRUITT around 1908(?) in Chicot or Ashley County Arkansas. Children: Talmadge, Elgin, Fred, Essie,& Hazel born between 1909 and 1921 in West Carroll Parrish, Louisiana and around Ashley County and Chicot County Arkansas. Fred HANNIBAL married Gladys AARON in 1933 in Springhill, Arkansas. Children: Kenneth, Dorothy, Oscar and Linda. Fred died in an automobile accident in Fulton, Arkansas in 1944. Gladys Aaron Hannibal then married Fred's older brother, Elgin in 1946. Children: Robert, Ruth and Harold Mark.
